A little sauna history
The Finns have been using outdoor saunas for thousands of years, beginning with what was literally a hole in the ground. They would dig a hole deep enough to fit the entire tribe, with a fire pit at the centre and a roof made of anything they could find to trap the heat and keep out the cold, wind and rain. It wasn’t until the nineteenth century that the Finns began to build more sophisticated sauna houses, and there are people to this day who insist that the hole in the ground is still the way to go. Fortunately for you, we don’t subscribe to that theory! Technology has come a long way from a fire in a hole to the infrared sauna experience we now offer.
